In this Praxis-class you’ll have the opportunity to look closer at slide material, specifically from tap dance. Some of them travel fast over the floor, some remind more of small, smooth footwork from house dancing. Many different techniques are hidden inside of this material. We’ve worked on it for a long time in the process of making Soft Ice. It’s a lot of fun, a little bit hard and good training for your core muscles as well as stamina…! The class is based on active use of the feet and weight transfer. Guitarist Juhani Silvola will accompany the class.
Who can join: For anyone who wants to learn how to slide in all possible ways. Anyone can join. Bring wool socks.

We will work with grounding and balancing through focus on breath, mindfulness, movement and gravity. We constantly need to be activated, sharpened and focused. How can breath be a support for balancing the nervous system? How can we be more conscious about body-mind connection? How can we work on releasing tension, using balance, gravity and breath as support? Relevant for those who want to learn stress management and relaxation techniques, strengthen body awareness and learn about functional breathing. The classes involve breathing techniques/breathwork, somatic movement, alignment, bodywork and elements from yoga. We will work both individually and in groups. The practice varies between floor-based work, seated and standing sequences and all practitioners are welcome.
You can bring your own yoga mat if you like, if not there are mats/bolsters/blocks/blankets available. I recommend an extra sweater to put on.

What traces do we carry from a time and culture before us? The workshop will provide an insight into the tasks and practices used in the project SIYA. The project explores different forms of spaces, places where ambiguity and complexity arise. We will work with transformation and ambiguity as a queer and decolonial strategy to search for new ways of being and relating.
Who can join: Open to all, please contact us if you need any accommodations.
Bio: Carl Aquilizan (de/dem) is a Norwegian-Filipino dance artist based in Oslo. They explore decolonial and transformative practices from a queer and multicultural perspective, and want to challenge Western norms and open up new ways of thinking. In their latest and upcoming projects, they examine their Filipino heritage and what it means to carry the knowledge and stories of their ancestors in their bodies. The works also look at traces of pre-colonial worldviews in Filipino language, culture and contemporary expressions. Carl Aquilizan is educated at Spin Off Forstudium i Dans and Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Previous works include dis_func (2021), Flower Boy (2022/24), Blooming (2022/23) and Out of Place (2025) which have been shown on a number of stages in Norway, including Flower Boy being shown at Dansens Hus in 2024. Wednesdays 11.03 + 18.03 + 25.03.2026 kl 9:30 - 11:30 at Flamenco Trondheim (Båtmansgata 4, Trd)
These classes offer an introduction to flamenco as both a dance and a cultural expression, rooted in centuries-old traditions from Andalusìa in southern Spain. We
will explore flamenco’s unique rhythm, movement, and emotional depth, focusing on connecting with yourself and the music, cultivating mental and physical presence. It can open up an inner strength that embraces power, softness, and elegance. Throughout the workshop, we will work on basic technique, posture, and expression, as well as a short choreography in a four-beat rhythm to melody/song. This flamenco style is energetic and playful, while leaving room for deeper interpretation.
Practical Information: You’ll need comfortable pants/tights and a top. A skirt with some width can be worn over the pants if you like, as it can be incorporated into some dance movements—but that’s optional. The characteristic footwork in flamenco creates a clear rhythmic sound from shoes with metal nails under the heel and toe. For beginners, character/theater shoes or simple dress shoes with a small heel and hard sole work well. Avoid sneakers or shoes with rubber soles, and make sure the shoes fit securely to give you freedom to dance. Flamenco shoes can be borrowed as well. Welcome to a fusion of strength, rhythm, and emotion in flamenco!
Who can join: The course is open to anyone who wishes to explore this exciting and passionate dance and experience how to integrate some of it into their own unique identity.
Bio: Hilde began dancing flamenco in Granada in 2001–2002, while living and studying in the southern Spanish region of Andalucía. She has taken flamenco courses at Academia de Baile Flamenco in Buenos Aires as well as in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. In Norway, she has studied with various teachers in Oslo and Trondheim. Hilde is a certified specialist in psychology and currently works as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, NTNU.

DansiT residency artists - Wednesday 8.4.2026 kl 9:30-11:30 at DansiT
This workshop will focus on improvisation within a designated frame or space. We will practice observing and listening to the environment, responding through our bodies and movements. How can we assimilate with or diffrenciate ourselves from our surroundings? Is there a way to coexist harmoniously with the environment?
Who can join: Open for anyone who is familiar with dancing and improvising.
Bio: Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki are based in Brussels and Oslo. Since beginning their collaboration in 1996 and later co-founding the company fieldworks, they have created more than 25 performances presented in over 30 countries. Together they explore performativity as a porous and shifting interplay of movement, sound, image and technology. Drawing from a wide range of disciplines, their work creates layered performances where dance becomes an expanded field of inquiry. With sensitivity to both the organic and the artificial, they blur boundaries – crafting spaces where new meanings can emerge, quietly or unexpectedly. At the heart of their work lies a desire to reimagine the body’s relationship to its surroundings, and to invite audiences into this ongoing act of discovery. In 2025, they received the Hedda Award for until, which premiered at Dansens Hus in Oslo.
Tuesday 21.04 kl 10:00 - 12:00 (part of Multiplié dansefestival - free entrance)
+ Wednesdays 29.04 + 06.05.2026 kl 9:30 - 11:30 at DansiT
In this workshop we will explore how to bring awareness to uncomfortable sensations in the body and how we can use these sensations as a doorway to expanding our own borders. In my own artistic practice (and life) I am noticing how bringing awareness and curiosity to difficult mind/body sensations actually provides me with a lot of opportunity for expression and satisfaction. I now want to share, explore and bring more language to this practice together with you. We will do this through different improvisational tasks, somatic awareness methods, drawing and writing.
This is not a workshop where you will be pressured to go far past your comfort zone, but a workshop where we will practice tools so you can explore your borders in your own way and pace.
Who can join: This workshop is suited for all movement enthusiasts, artists and anyone who is curious about themselves

“Notice & Continue” is a dance practice that I am currently developing. I am very interested in meeting dancers and dance enthusiasts in Trondheim and see how you approach it.
Notice what you are doing and take it further. We use movements, positions, quality of movement, breath and thoughts as material to embrace, develop, emphasize or repeat. Every little thing you notice can be a seed to take further. By noticing and continuing, new aspects of the activity are constantly coming to the forefront of our attention.
“Notice & Continue” has two strands, either a very open, generative task that gets me moving from a base of nothing. Or a more specific form using repetitions. I will try both in the workshop. I also like to start with joy and desire, and to follow our interests. Towards the end of the class, if there is time, I would like to open up for a shared game where we get the chance to interact with the others. Bring comfortable clothes.
Who can join: This workshop can be joined by anyone with an interest in improvising with some specificity and attention to details.

Saturday 11.04.2026 kl 11:00 - 15:00
We will start slowly. Tuning into our bodies, finding our voice, finding shared weight and shared voice. Finding a thought and playing with it. In this practice we will research dance as a dynamic dialogue carrier while we blur the line between spoken and danced language.
In the second half of the workshop, I would like to go one step further and invite the group into the core of my solo research: expanding the dialogue through musical instruments and loopstation, creating layers of movement, sound, and language as a collective experiment. I will bring my saxophone, and I warmly welcome participants who play an instrument and have been curious about integrating it into their dance practice to bring theirs along. This is entirely optional—there is already more than enough to explore with voices and bodies alone.
Bring clothes that you will be comfortable in on the floor and in physical contact with others. Covering knees and elbows might be a good idea.
The workshop will be held in English.
Who can join: The workshop is for dancers and movers with a basic background in contact improvisation, and is open to all abilities. It welcomes anyone who wishes to access their dancing body from the perspective of a communicator and explore how the idea of dance can expand into sound, voice, and musical instruments.
Bio: Šárka Benedová is a dancer and saxophonist based in Oslo, originally from the Czech Republic. Join us for a somatic and choreographic workshop drawing on Heidi Rustgaard’s ongoing research into durational performance, listening practices, and her One-Note concept, where the singular transforms into the plural.
In this session, participants will explore Sitting Scores, a poetic and embodied choreographic practice that unfolds entirely from the act of sitting. Beginning with simple, everyday movements, we will collectively develop a movement score grounded in stillness, presence, and attentiveness.
As we sit together, side by side, apart, in between, we will explore sitting both as an action and a metaphor: sitting with the moment, sitting through discomfort, sitting beside others, sitting as a witness, and sitting with sound and place.
The workshop includes guided explorations in stillness and everyday movement, individual and collective listening practices, as well as opportunities for writing and reflection. Together, we’ll investigate how minimal, attentive actions can generate rich choreographic material and reveal new insights into how we relate to others, to space, and to time through the seemingly simple act of sitting.
Sitting Scores - Led by choreographer Heidi Rustgaard of H2DANCE is open to dancers, movers, performers, and anyone interested in embodied awareness and the choreographic process. No previous dance experience is required.
Bio: Heidi Rustgaard is a choreographer, curator, performer, and researcher exploring expanded choreography through queering structures, sound, and object relations. Co-director of H2DANCE and Fest en Fest, a festival of expanded choreography. She teaches at Trinity Laban and Roehampton and is currently in the artist cohort at Rose Choreographic School at Sadler’s Wells, London.

Silvia Gribaudi‘s works embody light-heartedness, irony and freedom. The workshop is an experience of the poetic dimension that Silvia Gribaudi reasearches between the vivacity and presence of the body, where the cathartic dimension of humor and play are embodied in the expression of the body and of the gesture in each person. During the workshop there will be an exploration of the vital body that alternates the ability to have fun with an equal attention to the movement technique. Through a proposal mixing contemporary dance training and clown, with a focus on the value of the fall, imperfection and mistake are considered as an expressive opportunity. How to revitalize physicality with self -irony and the dynamism of dance and humor? How does dance bring the perception of the body and changes in this playful atmosphere?
The class is open to everyone, without any limitation of age or ability; both for professionals and amateurs; it is accessible to people with disabilities. The class will be held in English.
Bio: Silvia Gribaudi is an Italian choreographer and performer. Since 2004 she has been focusing her research on the social impact of the body and on the relation between audience and performer, through an artistic research on choreography, dance and humour. The zero point technique workshop. For professional and amateur performing artists, and for everyone who would like to learn a simple but effective technique that helps both the audience to follow and enjoy the action on stage, and the performer to deepen their actions and presence. The workshop is in English.
Scenic action is at its purest when you do one thing at a time and focus all your attention on that one thing. Like, for example, small children playing with a teddy bear: The whole world around them disappears, for them only the teddy bear exists. And the moment they see a more interesting toy, the teddy bear disappears too, and they just play with the new toy. The moment when we move from action A to action B is called the changing point. The zero point technique is nothing more than taking a 2-3 second technical pause at the changing point.
In the first half of our playful workshop, we will have improvisational exercises where we can first try and then become aware of how to organically get to different actions using the changing points, and how to strengthen our presence in the process. We will then add the zero point technique to these exercises and see what effect this technique has. Finally, we will look at how we can apply this technique to short verbal scenes as well.

I'll be sharing my practice around voice and movement. Using my voice in different ways - singing or just making sounds - has become more and more important to me. I’m interested in voice as a continuation of movements already happening inside of the body - when we breathe or talk. Together we can explore how using our voice opens up different movement possibilities and pathways in the body.
I use the term “singing” very loosely - it is not connected to a specific style or aesthetic for me. We will go slow in finding the voice, and feeling comfortable with it in the space - aiming for playful, shared, curious and fun times. No previous experience in singing is needed. Please bring your notebook if you keep one:)
This praxis is for all dancers & movers who have experience in dance improvisation. I will follow guidelines for safer spaces, and wish to invite all bodies and abilities welcome to the studio. The workshop will be based on improvisational tasks that can be approached differently, in ways that make sense to each mover! Feel free to send a message to Praxis Trondheim if you would like to know more to decide if the workshop fits your needs and interests.
Bio: Currently studying towards their MA in Dance Performance at Uniarts in Helsinki, Venla Niitemaa is a dance artist based between Norway and Finland. In my artistic practice, I am interested in themes such as care, empathy, and intimacy, and interpersonal relationships. I focus on a queer and feminist perspective, and for me, making queer art is connected to an attempt to dismantle normative ways of looking at bodies. My practice lies at the intersection of creating and performing, and I also work with interdisciplinary projects.

This workshop is based on Kongsness` experiences and discoveries from her work with the drag king group Gutta and the performance series Butch Tribute. Both projects deal with queer, female masculinity as a frame and a starting point, but in different ways. Through looking closer at these various alternative or marginalized forms of masculinity, we will continue into the idea of gender performativity in general, as Kongsness will share tools and strategies from both choreographic and drag practices.
In this workshop we will be concerned with tracing our sense of identity as performers to be able to expand our artistic possibilities for movement, action and presence. How can questioning expectations we are met with as performers/artists help us question and confront the (unconscious) fulfilling of conventions in our artistic work? What kind of frame do we need to set for ourselves to be able to create and perform the work that we want to create and perform?
All though these strategies are developed from and with a queer perspective, we will make use of them beyond relating to gender and sexuality; to question and make ourselves aware of all kinds of recurring patterns in our work.
This workshop is for everyone with a performative or movement-based practice. All tasks given All tasks given take into account the participants' different movement backgrounds and functional levels, so that everyone can work and explore from their own starting point.
Bio: Ann-Christin Kongsness (she/her) is educated in dance, choreography and aesthetic theory. She works as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, writer and dragking based in Oslo, and several of her projects have a queer focus; Skeiv Dansekunst – a conversation series (https://www.skeivdansekunst.no) and the performance series Butch Tribute (https://www.butchtribute.com), in addition to life as Robin in the drag king collective Gutta (https://gutta.world).

Bio: Mathilde Caeyers is a Norwegian/Belgian choreographer based in Tromsø. Since 2018, she has created five choreographic works where dance has a close dialogue with installation art. Mathilde's artistic practice is based on the science-fiction method, where hypothetical future scenarios open up space for reflection around the present. She has consistently worked with themes surrounding human existence, such as free will and consciousness. Here, seemingly far-fetched ideas find a foothold in the present to encourage more questions than answers about human perception of reality. In addition, she has a 20% position as network coordinator at Davvi - Center for Scene Art and is chairman of the board of the interest organization Forum for Northern Norwegian Dance Artists.

In the classes I want to share the dancefloor, while exploring how improvisation is used as a tool for both warming up our bodies but also as an entrance to actually producing materials. I enjoy working with desires, playfulness and pleasure when dancing in the studio, alone or together with others and in relation to the music.
Open for anyone interested in movement, improvisation and dance. Might contain a high level of physicality which everyone can regulate individually throughout the class.

PRAXIS Trondheim is honored to host “Letting Go of Things” - a movement-based workshop led by Emilyn Claid, queer performance artist in her 8th decade during Multiplié Dansefestival 2025.
‘What do we need to let go of to enliven our practices, to dissolve static postures and crumble notions of normativity? How can we use uncertainty as a life force?
With somatic movement practice as a safe ground, this workshop considers how letting go - physical, metaphorical and psychological - informs living, being and relating, undoing Western obsessions with supremacy and individuality. We will work relationally, with the environment and with each other, accepting messiness and failure as necessary for creative adventure. You are welcome to bring an object that represents something you might like to let go of. The workshop is open to people, across arts disciplines, who like to move and improvise, individually and in relation, and who are attentive to queer sensibilities. Ideas and practices are inspired by Emilyn's book FALLING Through Dance and Life (Bloomsbury 2021).
Bio: Emilyn Claid is a choreographer, writer, director and teacher, working between academic and professional dance contexts, interested in the processes and practices of making movement based performance. She also works as a Gestalt/existential psychotherapist and enquiries from both fields are integrated into practice based research projects. Her career stretches back to the 1960s when she was a ballet dancer and the 1970s when she was co founder of X6 Dance Space in London and co-editor of New Dance Magazine. In the 1980s she was artistic director of Extemporary Dance Theatre; and in the 1990 worked with Phoenix Dance Company and Candoco Dance Company while performing and producing her own shows such as Virginia Minx at Play (1992). In 1997 she was awarded a PhD and published a book, Yes? No! Maybe… Seductive Ambiguity in Dance Theatre Performance (Routledge 2006). Between 2003-2013 she was Director of BA & MA Choreography at Dartington College of Arts and during the merger with Falmouth University she played a major role in developing the dance and choreography courses.

Within both contemporary dance and physical theatre, voice and vocal expressions are often used as independent materiality or as part of a larger and ambiguous multimodal expression. With all due respect to the area of the singing profession, the workshop is defined "as on the side of this" But where the voice, vocal expression together with movement and dance will be the main premise for the workshop's exploration.
Extended vocal techniques are sounds and expressions that clearly differ from beautiful singing within the bel canto tradition. Trained singers can easily produce extended sounds and vocal expressions, but are still not exclusively reserved for this art genre.
Research shows that the vast majority of us use the voice's capacity within a very limited register. The workshop will therefore be an alternative to exploring the artistic possibilities of the voice. The philosopher Jacques Ranciere highlights the disruptive nature of art and refers to art as a break or dissent in the sensual and that with it we can see the outside world in new ways. The workshop generally relates to the concept of dissent, with us sharing a practice that contrasts the norm and "disrupts" the expected or accepted. Instead of looking for answers and "correct" solutions, we use wonder, associations and our sensory apparatus as reflection tools.
The workshop is suitable for everyone with some practice in the performing arts, like dance and theater, and for everyone with an interest in movement and voice. It is not necessary to be a professional performer. The workshop is open to everyone from 16 years old. Exploring and learning about the human body and how its different parts collaborate has a strong and almost magical impact on our presence and therefore on our movements. Opening our body to this state of awareness can enrich, strengthen and inspire the way we dance. The starting point to each class is a topic related to the human body from a small simple detail to larger connections in the organism. The theme will be explored through games, free physical exploration, simple repetitive exercises and improvisation. In some classes we explore the themes in connection with a partner. Taking care of ourselves in order to take care of each other can be an interesting way to learn something about our own bodies. The classes become an open space for our own exploration, physical reflection and an opportunity for taking and giving care. We will explore 3 different topics. In class 1 we follow the baby's development from the floor up to walking. There is a lot to learn and read about this development and there is a certain idea of what is “normal” or not, but at the same time it is something that is extremely individual. Each baby takes their own journey and path up in their own timing. I have written down the very personal journey that my child Erle took. We take this journey as inspiration and will explore and work with the movements I observed. In class 2 we are up and ready to play. We will start with some fun awareness exercises and play with balls, gravity, momentum, the forces that move us and the movement they create. In class 3 we explore the listening between 2 bodies and the potential around it. We will include some of the explorations and discoveries of the first 2 classes.
All bodies are welcome and most of the explorations and exercises lend themselves to be adapted to different bodies and needs. In class 1 there are several specific movements we will explore and adapting them could take more effort than on days with more open suggestions, but we can take time and make space for it. Feel free to send a message to Praxis Trondheim if you would like to know more to decide if the class fits your needs and interests.

In my practise I draw inspiration from different techniques within movement and performing art with a focus on creative flow, improvisation and interaction. We will work on finding a strong bodily presence, with movement qualities, and do playful tasks to help us develop our own movement patterns. During the two hours I hope the participants will feel the joy of movement, reach a state of meditative flow, and experience a playful curiosity about the body and its possibility for movement! Everyone is welcome, whether you walk, run, roll or crawl. If you are a professional movement artist, movement enthusiast, or just curious for a new experience that’s healthy for the body and soul.

My practice explores the connection between humans and nature and I often draw inspiration from my surroundings. How does the landscape affect my movements? How can my body merge into the landscape? In these three classes, we will explore different sites through dance improvisation and experience landscapes and freedom of movement collectively. By taking inspiration from the environment through listening, sensing, and moving, we create greater awareness of our surroundings and our body. Join the movement journey supported by wind, water, trees, and earth and discover our own body landscapes.

Wednesday 21.08.24: Wheelchair - A creative tool in dance
A wheelchair is often a symbol of something sad. Are you curious about the possibilities a wheelchair offers? Then this is the workshop for you!
Elen shows her performance where she talks about her wheelchair. Then she shows an improv in which she uses the wheelchair creatively. Participants get the opportunity to try out the wheelchair and explore the parts on it. Each participant shows a small improvisation with the wheelchair, or one or more parts of it.
Wednesday 28.08.24: S(t)olo
What possibilities and limitations does a chair have? What different characteristics do different chairs have? If you like improvisation, this is the workshop for you!
Elen shows her own s(t)olo from "Stol på meg". Each participant uses their own chair, and creates a small sequence with it. Then all participants show their s(t)olo to everyone at the end.
Wednesday 04.09.24: Dance to text - Text to dance
Elen talks about her experience with writing and dancing on social media. What comes first, the lyrics or the dance? What opportunities does dance offer on social media? What limitations?
The participants create their own lyrics and dance to them. Or: dancing after an idea or impulse, and writing the lyrics afterwards. Free choice. They then show the dance to everyone.
If you enjoy writing and want to know how the joy of writing can be combined with dancing, this is for you!

Welcome to fun juggling classes where we explore dance with objects. This is an excellent arena for developing your sense of coordination and playfulness with objects. There are no limits to what juggling can be, so here you can bring your own movements and create your own repertoire. No prior knowledge is required to participate.
Bio: Julian Sæther started juggling self-taught at the age of 7 and has now been throwing, catching, and manipulating objects for more than 20 years. He got into circus through the culture school in Trondheim and went on to get a BA in Circus and Theatre Arts from the prestigious university L'Académie Fratellini in the outskirts of Paris. Now he is looking for new ways of using the art of juggling to express the humanity within, often looking to other art forms like dance, theatre, and music to get inspired and approach the stage from new angles.

In these three classes, I want to work on the relationship between the stage actors' body and
materials/figures/objects.
We will look for, and become aware of, how objects and figures can influence the actor/dancer
movements. How can an object be in dialogue with a character?
We will examine how every physical material/object has its own energy and
possibility of movement. How can the object live its own life? How do we become more conscious of the use
of props? What is the difference between animation and manipulation?
There will be both individual work and group work.
Bio: Anne Marit has worked for 40 years at Cirka Teater, both as a playwright/director and an actor, and has created over 50 productions. PRAXIS Trondheim invites you to an open conversation about how we can create an art field that tolerates children and embraces the role of parents. This event is for all artists – whether you have children, plan to have children, work with artists who have children, employ artists with children or have been a child once. We want to explore the topic from different perspectives and brainstorm practical solutions and future visions together through conversations, play, physical movement tasks and awareness exercises.
Among other things, we will address specific challenges, such as working hours that do not always fit with the nursery, work trips - with or without children, unpredictability in working life and finances, physical stress in the role of performer (and parent).
Join us for an exchange about how we can make the art world more inclusive for parents and their children. Can we create a rich and creative working environment that embraces the whole spectrum of life.
Welcome to an inspiring conversation with PRAXIS Trondheim!

My artistic practice, in meeting with others, is primarily about sharing experiences,
share dance history, art history, share interests and try to create a space where everyone can be with shaping a workshop they can feel ownership of. I am concerned with micro and macro trauma within the art field of dance. The workshop offers sensory and practical alternatives to known and minor "traumas within dance".
We can work our ass off, without losing our ass.

Der hver bevegelse flyter over i hverandre.
Hjertelig velkommen

“My personal praxis is centered around always meeting the body and self where it is at in any given day, understanding the needs and working from there with what is, embodying patience and seeing possibilities rather than limitations.”
In the workshops we will explore some easygoing breath and bodyweight principles to restore neutrality in the body. We will do some basic pole training and introduction to pole, as well as choreography with the pole. There might be room for some creative work and maybe we will try on some pole dance heels as well.
Additional info: for choreography and floor work tights are great, but for trying moves on the pole itself, sitting/climbing etc. please bring shorts. No body lotion, hand cream, hair oil or similar on the same day as pole training, it will ruin the grip.
Bio: Astrid Elisabeth Hofstad is a part time pole- and dance teacher, living and exploring life between chronic illness and wellness. She has education from Bårdar Akademiet and University of Bergen. In these Praxis classes we will learn the basic movements of AcroYoga for all three roles of flyer, base and spotter and we will experience how quickly we can learn fun and impressive tricks in a safe way.
AcroYoga is a movement style that was developed about 2003 partly by Eugene Poku and Jessica Goldberg (AcroYoga Montreal), partly by Jason Nemer and Jenny Sauer-Klein (AcroYoga International) that merges acrobatics with yoga and also incorporates dance, circus moves, calisthenics and cheerleading. Most of the asanas, transitions, washing machines and tricks are performed in a group of three with the roles of base, flyer and spotter. The flyer fly on the base and the spotter provide safety measures and other support. A system has been made so that this way of playing is accessible for everyone and at the same time a large number of schools has been developed, focusing on various aspects.
Bio: Bjørn Hagen started his intensive yoga journey in 2019 with ashtanga, pilates, ballet and other yoga stiles and has taken a 200h yoga teacher training at Zenit in Trondheim, a 200h AcroYoga teacher training with Poku and Goldberg in Montral and a 100h AcroYoga teacher training with Acro Way in Sweden. He has been teaching AcroYoga at Zenit and Trondheim Pole Studio and at various workshops and festivals and has a goal of building a strong AcroYoga community in Trondheim as well as building his own skills in a range of movement styles.

Very often we stop our creative impulses, because we are afraid of how the surroundings will respond to us.
With the support of The Movement Map of The 5 Rhythms, we will explore how we can follow and release our creative impulses without censoring ourselves. To embody our creativity - Finding liberation and expressing yourself effortless. Each of The 5 Rhythms:
Flowing- Staccato -Chaos- Lyrical- Stillness contains different qualities that our body intuitively remembers. In this workshop we will explore the quality of each rhythm as an organic Wave of movement, impulses and energy. We will move through two WAVES of The 5 Rhythms. The first one, we reconnect with our body and our own impulses
The second WAVE we will explore our spontaneous impulses as encounters with the group and in couples and trios.
Before we embark on this journey together, give yourself some time to reflect on these questions:
“What do you want to explore and experience both personally and artistically?”
“What are you longing for?”

Wei-An's practice of ‘The Art of Falling’ is part navigation of space-time curvature, part happy accident. Growing up fidgety, Wei-An fell down a lot, and eventually, he figured out that falling down was both fun and a good way to not get hurt.
Today, he continues to explore falling for the pleasure it provides: a momentary sense of weightlessness, the thrill and speed of giving in to gravity, and the discovery of possible ways out of a tricky situation. It is a practice of going along rather than fighting what's happening, of learning to trust long years of training, and keeping an eye out for the next fun ride out there.
The aim of this workshop is to introduce fundamental technical skills and ideas about falling. These are tools that find practical application as a safety net for learning new physical skills, or in the construction of floorwork patterns. After the introduction of these techniques and ideas, we'll practice applying them in exercises around rolling and bailing out of tricky situations. Finally, the workshop will culminate with the learning of a movement sequence that demonstrates some of the ways in which falling can be used.
Bio: Wei-An has spent his whole life falling down; it's a by-product of the belief that he can, even when he can’t – whether that meant trying to spin on his head or backflip before he was ready, or learn how to snowboard on his own. And though he may not be the best at those activities, he's become quite good at falling. He has, in fact, built his contemporary practice around his love-hate relationship with gravity, and the connections this relationship has with the psychological state of flow.
A street dancer turned contemporary creator, Wei-An is curious about how his background in breaking might be used to create moods and tell stories that draw the audience into the worlds of his choreography. This, together with his explorations in falling, has taken Wei-An to teach and perform in places such as Vancouver BC, Seoul, Singapore, London, Luxembourg, and more.
Currently, he is working on a full-length solo, A Reason for Falling, commissioned by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (Singapore).

«EMBRACE THE MYSTERY THAT IS YOU» Gabrielle Roth (1941 – 2012)

This workshop is designed to provide participants with a platform to explore and push the boundaries of their artistry, delving into innovative forms of movement expression. The workshop focuses on various aspects of technique, body awareness, and movement fluency. Participants will delve into the fundamentals of contemporary dance, including body posture, working with body weight, release, locomotion in space and movement fluency. These classes aim to teach participants how to work with movement in a creative and fun way using Ido Portal-inspired pair exercises, improvisation tasks, and choreographic tools. Through these exercises and tasks, participants will develop their body awareness, coordination, and mobility skills while having fun and be in a constant motion. Improvisation tasks encourage exploration and creativity, while choreographic tools challenge dancers to think outside the box and collaborate with others in the group. Overall, these workshops provide a space for participants to explore dance in a joyful and supportive environment.

This workshop dives into the TASK-WRITE-REVISE method I developed and used in the Final Project of my Master’s in Dance, R E S P A C E (2021). It is a task based choreographic tool that uses repetition and accumulation to process movement ideas and to build patterns. The piece worked with imagination and space, with the aim to create authentic physical experiences of imagined physical spaces. The workshop approaches these themes only loosely, and aims more to offer an alternative compositional tool.
The method works in a cyclical manner, where a task is decided and executed, and the experience of doing the task is logged through intuitive writing – or alternatively drawing – and then revising the task into a new form. The aim is not to recreate a set movements, but accumulate and build up movement from our sensations, and to keep record of the kinaesthetic, the experienced and the feelings of “right” when improvising. The workshop works as an introduction to the possibilities of the method, but within the 4h frame, it does not aim to produce composition. Although they may always be happy surprises
Bring with you a notebook or paper and a pen.

" Since I was a child I have always been fascinated by learning about how the human body works and how the different parts collaborate. When I started dancing and throughout my career as a dancer and teacher it has become more and more clear that it seems to have such a strong and sometimes even magical impact on our movement, presence, perception and therefor influences and enriches the way we dance.
Each day the class will be based on one topic related to how the human body works from a small simple detail to bigger connections within the organism. Each topic will be explored by looking at visual material, free and guided physical exploration and simple repetitive exercises. In the end we will have the option for an open session where we combine the different information and material we explored or gradually accumulate the material to build an energetic movement phrase, that plays with all levels of space, speed, flow and the forces that move us. The class is build to be open for all kinds of movers and gives space for everyone to join and still follow their own wishes and needs. Since I have done a lot of online dancing and teaching during the last year which has reminded me again of how important it is to really connect to the space you are in, we will also focus on this during the in person classes. Rediscovering the obvious like it is something new. Enjoying the value of being local and at the same time connecting to the world in a small way or to the entire Universe depending on where we want to take it that day. Looking forward to start the day together and dance with you."

"My practice combines contemporary dance with dance improvisation and contact improvisation that provides a playful approach to choreographic processes. I am particularly interested in the individual movement language of each participant and the relationship between the bodies and the space. This will be explored by examining different movement qualities within improvisation and composition tasks. Through movement meditation, we create body awareness, get to know our own movement patterns and connect to ourselves and the space around us. The class includes improvisation tasks which will then be transformed by the participants and serve as a base for a movement dialogue with each other.”

Welcome to the Round Table Talk with Praxis Trondheim. We have invited Icelandic choreographer Katrin Gunnarsdóttir to talk about her work ALDA, which is inspired by the theme: women's collective physical labour. We are very excited for her and one of the dancers from ALDA to share their experiences and to open a conversation around questions like:
What does physical labour mean for female dancers?
What was and is it like to work as a professional dancer?
What challenges are we facing now and in the future?
How to make a living as a performing artist and survive on the market?
What is needed to create a healthy work environment?
What can we learn from the international scene?
How to build a supportive community in Trondheim?

Ingeborg will share her work with release-based technique with a focus on floor work, functional movement and bodywork (physical touch). The material is inspired by Bartenieff Fundamentals and Developmental Patterns, and focuses on effective and articulated utilization of gravity and the structure of the skeleton. We will work with simple exercises on the floor both with and without a partner, and take this into slightly more complex combinations and improvisations where we apply the various principles. We will also play with how the connections in the body and the contact with the floor can create a safer entrance to more challenging tasks such as handstands and more acrobatic contact work.

The most important thing you do every single day is…. BREATHE.
Breathing of all things has the greatest impact on your health. It has the power to change the state of your nervous system. It is capable of charging you with energy, alleviating stress, anxiousness and fear as well as shifting your perspective on things. Even chronic pain can be treated with breathwork.
Breathing is also the most basic movement. All other movements build on breathing. Breathing is the foundation for more complex movement patterns. Functional movement requires functional breathing, and functional breathing leads to movement patterns that are aligned, effortless and efficient. In case there are blockages in breathing, there most likely will be blockages in movement as well as in the inner flow of emotions, thoughts and inspiration.
In the Praxis classes, Sanni leads you through explorations on breathing and movement, synchrony and asynchrony. Classes consist of breath awareness, movement and breathing practices focusing on freeing and functionalizing the breath. Each session includes also a breathwork session that works as a great tool for diving deeper into the body's wisdom, finding and releasing emotional blockages and tapping into one’s creative force.
Bio: Sanni Parkkinen is experienced yoga teacher (E-RYT 500) and breathing coach. In her work, Sanni focuses on nervous system health, breath and respecting the wisdom of the body. During the past few years she has deepened her understanding of the human system by diving into somatic work and different mind-body practices. She is educating new breathing coaches in Trondheim and running online breathing courses in Finland, through which shei has coached hundreds of people to free and functionalize their breathing. Her approach to breathing is multidisciplinary, drawing inspiration from various modalities: Buteyko Method, Integrative Breathing Therapy, Breathwork, Wim Hof, Yoga, Taoism, Somatic Experiencing, Feldenkrais and trauma therapy (among others). Sanni is also lecturing in companies and giving speeches to various audiences. In addition, she studies psychology at NTNU and is especially interested in neuroscience, mind-body connection and body's natural healing processes. Her big passion is to explore the convergences of latest research and ancient wisdom.

If your mind doesn't remember your first dance, your flesh does."
As a performer, I use Butoh as a tool to ground myself in the present, open my senses, free and renew my imagination, explore and develop a new bodytelling language. For me, Butoh is a true bridge between dance and theater. It gives the possibility to connect deeply to your inner self; to dance with your viscera, bones and cells. It is a philosophy, a spiritual process that gives access to a new field of narration. After an introduction on what Butoh is (if it is possible to define it ;), we will approach different techniques such as embodiment, image-guided improvisation, neutral walk or butoh-fu. We will also be inspired by surrealist artists. Come explore your own dance!
Bio: Céline Meillaud is a French performer and butoh-inspired dancer. She graduated from a drama school based on Jacques Lecoq technique (physical theater, mime, mask, commedia dell'arte, clown, buffoon). In 2014, she discovered Butoh and followed several workshops across Europe. In 2017, she traveled to Japan to explore the roots of butoh before moving to Norway. Today she has an artistic base in Trondheim where she lives and works as a dance performer for different companies: Cirka Teater, Panter Tanter and Crotonicx.

This workshop is an introduction to applied research in the field of performance and dance. In this framework, time-based arts are a creative process used to unveil something new about a given subject: dance is a forensic, investigative tool, and the performance is a murder scene.
How to create a performance that is intended to be a practice of collective imagination instead of using dance as the simple illustration of a pre-existing concept, or the aestheticization of a political display?
We will depart from two practical examples:
- the use of poems as choreographic and political landscapes for performance
- Haunting and hospitality as techniques to approach ecological violence from a forensic perspective
Bio: Jassem Hindi is a performer, sound artist and teacher.
He has studied philosophy and has been working in the field of dance and performance for over ten years.
His strategy is to use broken objects, broken bodies and broken sounds, cast together by nervousness and necessity. His last three works focus on death poems as choreographic worlds. He has collaborated with choreographers Ligia Lewis, Mia Habib, Lara Kramer, Ida Larsen, Keith Hennessy, Ruairi Donovan, Ofelia Jarl Ortega, Rani Nair and many more.

Welcome to an open discussion about collaboration in the performing arts field and how to join forces for a rich and creative work environment in Trondheim.
How do different artists work with their own performing practices?
How to make a practice accessible to other movement practitioners, in addition to opening up for an interdisciplinary approach and a broader network?
What can we learn from each other?
What are the benefits and challenges of sharing artistic practice?
What is needed to create a strong network of collaborators in Trondheim?
How to build a community of professional artists from different disciplines who work with movement-based practices in Trondheim?
We want to discuss these questions and more during the Round Table with Praxis Trondheim and invite you to an open conversation spiced with some practical examples and movement invitations.

Bio: A Movement Based Artist

The Michael Chekhov Technique is an imaginative approach to experiencing the truth of the moment. It is a technique that seeks a connection between making an outer physical action and sensing how this movement evokes an inner response. All physical exercises are done with the intention of awakening the body in order to become a sponge finely tuned to respond to psychological impulses. Thus the performer aims at reaching a complete balance and harmony between the body and the thoughts, emotions and desires. The classes will experience the constant play between these two levels.
Bio: Italian Alessandra Felli holds a PhD in 'Digital technologies' and a master's degree in 'Performance analysis' from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Sapienza University of Rome. Felli has been studying Michael Chekhov's acting technique since 2014. Today she participates in the international 'Michael Chekhov Training Program', under the Michael Chekhov Europe Association. Felli worked for 'Teatro Stabile di Napoli', one of the National Theaters in Italy, and she has directed several classical and modern theater productions. Since 2029 she is the Artistic Leader of the performing art company Bizarra Produskjoner.

Contact improvisation (CI) is a dance technique in which points of physical contact provide the starting point for exploration through movement improvisation. The workshop offers an introduction to contact improvisation and a playful approach to the following themes: rolling point of contact, giving/receiving/sharing weight, leading and following, lifting and rolling. We start with a warm-up focussing on bodywork and body awareness that gives an introduction to touch and listening to the bodies and through body surfaces. Movement tasks in contact improvisation technique serve as tools for the exploration of the bodily communication between you and your partner. We finish with an open jam where you can play with the learned material and discover your own dance both alone and in physical contact with your partner.
Bio: Anna Thu Schmidt and Ingeborg Dugstad Sanders are Trondheim-based dance artists who have been working together since 2017. Both share a passion for dance improvisation and integrated dance and work together in Norway’s first integrated dance company Danselaboratoriet. Schmidt and Sanders have hosted several contact improvisation workshops and ImproJam’s in Trondheim and internationally.

With Material For the Spine, I was interested in alloying a technical approach to improvisational results. It is a system for exploring the interior and exterior muscles of the back. It aims to bring the light of consciousness to the dark side of the body, that is, the sides not much self-seen, and to submit sensations to the mind for consideration.”
Steve Paxton
Material For the Spine concentrates accumulated knowledges from Paxton’s study of walking, Contact Improvisation and Aikido practice to explore the movement possibilities in the spine and the connections between the head, pelvis, and vertebrae. This solo practice is a meditative study of a series of exercises, body puzzles and ideokinetic imagery.
Otto Ramstad followed Steve Paxton’s work of contact improvisation since 1996 and Paxton’s Material For The Spine since 2010. Not accessible for wheelchair users.
Bio: Otto Ramstad is a dance artist who works with movement research to create performances, video work and installations for theaters, galleries, museums and different site and context specific encounters. He began studying Body-Mind Centering® in 1981 at six years old with his first dance teacher Suzanne River and is now a Certified Teacher of Body-Mind Centering® , teaching internationally and working as the Educational Director of Somatic Education Australasia. For twenty-three years he has been collaborating with Olive Bieringa as BodyCartography Project. The mission of BodyCartography Project is to engage with the vital materiality of our bodies to create live performance that facilitates a re-enchantment of embodiment, relationship, and presence. He has a MA in Choreography from KHiO, Oslo. He has worked intensively over the last twenty years with primary teachers: with Lisa Nelson, assistant teaching for Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, founder of Body-Mind Centering®, and since 2010 with Steve Paxton’s Material for the Spine which he teaches for Paxton internationally including at Steve Paxton: Swimming in Gravity, Brussels. He has been dancing in the work of DD Dorvillier, Miguel Gutierrez, Sara Shelton Mann, Karen Nelson, Mia Habib and Kitt Johnson.

T&M workshops take elements from different somatic techniques and contemporary dance. For me it is crucial that dancers’ practice and training go together with performative experience. My goal is to change and activate the physical perception of our body and remind us of the infinite possibilities of movement. The first part of the class goes deeper into breathing forms and how to give direction and form to the body. The form of our breathing can reorganize the intention and expectations of the body. I use Biomechanics for the floorwork, because the physical body needs to understand the spiral form for effectiveness and energy in the articulations and muscles. Partnering is a tool for understanding your body and the second body through playing full dynamics and using the different levels of risk for falling and rolling. This kind of connection takes us into acrobatics. At the same time we use the foot work for transporting each other in space. Much of the material is inspired by fight and play that gives an opportunity to improvise and develop a dancer's own material.
Bio: Edwin Cabascango is an artist, dancer, choreographer and teacher currently based in Oslo. He has studied at Oslo National Academy of the Arts -MA Dance. He has performed and taught in Ecuador, Norway, Sweden, Lithuania, France and Hungary. He aims to give an approach for physicality by incorporating contemporary dance and martial arts such as systema (Russian martial arts), wu shu and tai chi.

In January 2020, Winsnes/Ålskog was at a residency in Hammerfest at Dansearena Nord where they started developing their movement practice connected to their performance project Stillhet og mørke. The project is based on a common interest in silence and what silence can contain for body and mind. What is silence? According to researcher Olga V. Lehmann, there is no pure silence. Silence is a space in between, and is therefore dependent on visual and audible noise , sounds, movement and language. Can silence initiate new gestures and movements? For us it did. When the pandemic led to the shutdown of dance classes in spring 2020, we started an outdoor movement practice in Tøyenparken in Oslo. This became a weekly practice for professional dancers, where we continued exploring the methods we designed in Hammerfest.
The practice consists of different improvisational tasks with concise bodily frames/images/sensory impressions to embody. With funding from Oslo kommune we did six performances in three different parks in the old district of Oslo, performed between 2-4 October 2020. Winsnes/Ålskog were joined by five of the dancers who had participated in the practice on a regular basis. The performance was called "Stillhet og Mørke - FLOKK", and the dramaturgy/structure was made up of the four main methods of the practice.
This practice is suitable for dance artists from different backgrounds, abilities and interests. The practice requires an interest in tuning in to what is happening on the inside, on the outside and in relation to the rest of the group.

“My practice combines contemporary dance with dance improvisation and provides a playful approach to choreographic processes. I am particularly interested in the individual movement language of each participant and the relationship between the bodies and space. This will be explored by exploring different movement qualities within improvisation and composition tasks. Through movement meditation, we create body awareness, discover our own movement patterns, and connect to ourselves and the space around us. The class consists of improvisation tasks that will be transformed by the participants and serve as a basis for a movement dialogue with each other. ”
