PRAXIS classes fall 2026 is for performing artists, people with movement experience, and also everyone interested in movements. All bodies are welcome and most of the explorations and exercises lend themselves to be adapted to different bodies and needs. Feel free to send a message to Praxis Trondheim if you would like to know more to decide if the class fits your needs and interests.

Drop-in price: Praxis classes kr. 50 - 250/ Praxis workshops kr. 150 - 500 (sliding scale)

Drop-in price must be paid upon arrival before the event via vipps to #732403 or cash. The sliding scale system allows you to pay according to your financial situation. The recommended price is kr. 150 for the classes and kr. 300 for the workshops. By paying more you make it possible for others to pay less.

PRAXIS class with Hannah Parsons - Band of cowboys (DansiT residency artist)

About the class: This workshop is an introduction to the movement practices around my upcoming performance, RODEO. Inspired by cowboys in Western movies, we’ll explore both solo and ensemble improvisation. We’ll explore rhythm, as well as what the confidence of the cowboy can bring to our dancing practice.

Who can join: Aimed at those with dance, movement or embodied experience.

Hannah Parsons is a British choreographer and dancer living and working in Oslo. She has developed collaborative performances with Unbaptised Infants, STICKY Productions and GUTS, and is currently creating her first self-authored work, RODEO. Hannah is a graduate of Trinity Laban, London.

About the workshop: As a participant in the workshop, you will get an introduction to the Butch Tribute performance series and learn the choreography for the dance piece Stone Butch Blues (previously shown as part of the performance A Butch is a Butch is a Butch is a Butch), which we will perform together at Åpen Skeiv Scene later the same evening. The workshop will be adapted to the level of the participants so that everyone has the opportunity to participate in their own way, no previous experience with dance is necessary. Find your inner stone butch!

The performance series Butch Tribute is an artistic and political work exploring what a butch is and can be, with and by Norwegian dancers and choreographers Marte Reithaug Sterud and Ann-Christin Kongsness. The term butch is used about masculine women in the queer community – a group that is often marginalized or made invisible. With this project, Sterud/Kongsness wants to diversify the representation of butches, by demonstrating different representations of queer, female masculinity. Butch Tribute consists of the three dance pieces; Flirt, Roses, Flanell Dream (2021) the text-based performance A Butch is a Butch is a Butch is a Butch (2023), the workshop Stone Butch Blues (2025) and the short film Handy (2026).

Marte Sterud and Ann-Christin Kongsness (Sterud/Kongsness) connect through their personal and theoretical interest in the relationship between dance and the body, gender and performativity. In 2018, they organized Queer Dance Art - a conversation series (www.skeivdansekunst.no) during Oslo Pride, with contributions from sixteen dance artists who actively take a stand on questions around gender expression and sexuality. Since 2021, they have been touring with the performance series Butch Tribute throughout Norway, as well as in Sweden, Iceland, England, Itlay and Hungary. About the classes: In this workshop, we explore how you can create your own expression in dance using tools from street dance. We will work with freestyle, technique, groove, musicality and social dance, and look at how your dance can change when you dance alone, with others or within a specific style. The goal is to give you methods to discover more of yourself in your dance, regardless of which genre or style you come from.

Who can join: This praxis is for those who want to explore their own dance and is for all bodies, you decide yourself how physically demanding you want the various exercises and this praxis is also suitable for people with functional variations.

Trine “Goldielock” Kjøsnes is a performing dancer and educator with a strong background in various street dance styles. She has played a central role in the development of the street dance community in Trondheim and runs RAW Dance Studio together with two others. Trine values creating different platforms where dancers can meet, and she focuses on building safe spaces where dancers across styles and backgrounds can explore together and find their own expression in dance.

PRAXIS workshop with David Madgyel - Between Sound and Movement

About the workshop: How does music shape the way we move, and how can movement shape the music in return? In this workshop we explore the dialogue between dance and live piano through guided improvisation. We practice keeping our own flow while the music shifts around us, then experiment with different ways of relating to sound: leading it, following it, supporting it, resisting it. Musical elements like pulse, volume, and mood become starting points for movement. The music is played live, so the conversation goes both ways. No background in dance needed, just curiosity and a willingness to listen.

Who can join: Open to dancers and movers of all levels. The work centers on listening and musical awareness rather than dance technique, so it suits different bodies, backgrounds and movement abilities.

Bio: I grew up in Slovakia and have lived in Bergen since 2012. I studied jazz piano at the conservatory in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. I came to contact improvisation as a musician, playing live at jams and festivals. Today I lead CI workshops at Carte Blanche and co-host weekly jams in Bergen, where I practice creating music and movement together with dancers in real time.

PRAXIS workshop with Katarina Skår Lisa - Finding your poetic nature - Together in relations

About the workshop: Finding our poetic nature- together in relations is an experiential movement space, where Katarina wants to share a practice that unites elements from butoh dance, poetic movements and nature related cosmologies. Through improvisations and observations, we will explore the complexity and simplicity of being present within ourselves, but also together in the moment. We will make room for listening very specifically. Through the art of dance, we relate to the body as nature and the natural world. Katarina asks the question; can our dance artistic experiences and practices give us a greater sense of perspectives and relationships to a more than human world and to the living world? Finding our poetic nature - together in relations wants to create a space for movement exploration, community and open bodily questions. The workshop ends with tea and dialogue.

Who can join: This workshop is for all artists and others curious about movement inquiries, the connection between our poetic nature and the relation to the living micro and macro cosmos around us. No earlier experience is necessary.

Katarina Skår Lisa is an educated choreographer, dance artist, and teacher. Through her work, she explores the relationships between people, culture, and nature. With a poetic approach, she engages with landscapes and the more-than-human world to create connections between the body and the natural environment. Her artistic projects, performances, and teaching practices—as well as the movement spaces she facilitates—are rooted in attentiveness, deep listening, and a sense of gratitude for all living beings.www.katarinalisa.com

PRAXIS class with Ingrid Berger Myhre - Dancing and Seeing (DansiT residency artist)

About the class: What do we see when we look at dance? If dance is a type of language, how does it speak? In this class we will move through a series of scores related to two things: dancing and seeing. We will do this either all together or in smaller groups. Our activities might resemble games more than exercises. We will look at how these games propose silent scripts - and how they can function as choreographic structures. If we think of playing as a way to destabilise: can we find ways to play with making meaning a bit more slippery? We will also find time to reflect together: How do we make sense of what we see and do? What happens when we start using words to describe it?

Who can join: A class for anyone interested in how we see, describe and perform dance. The movement material comes from ourselves, through exercises. All experience welcome.

Ingrid Berger Myhre is a Norwegian choreographer and performer based in Brussels. Her work explores how dance is read, and how language shapes what we see. Her practice is informed by language, literacy, and semiotics, and often unfolds through playful, rule-based processes that treat choreography as a system of signs. Working with precision and subtle humor, she creates performances that move between clarity and ambiguity, instruction and imagination.

OPEN STAGE at the Contact Impro Festival

Welcome to our OPEN STAGE - a free event as part of the Contact Impro Festival in Trondheim and a collaboration between ImproDans Trondheim and PRAXIS Trondheim.

The open stage offers a platform for performances based on contact improvisation (CI) or related to the principles of CI to shed a spotlight on CI as an art form. Here, dancers and participants of the festival get the opportunity to present artistic works in front of an audience. This can be a performance based on contact improvisation or a score to improvise in a performative way, in front of the audience or together with the audience.

This event is free and open to the public.

PRAXIS classes with Shereen Khachik - Meeting Through Movement; expression and embodiment

About the classes: Course Content:

Building groups, and a group body.

Establishing movement-based relationships

Initiating creative processes.

Exploring the body's possibilities, limitations and personal boundaries.

Creating genuine encounters

Expressing bodily experiences in choreographic narratives

Week 1

We will form a group and develop a shared, synchronized “group body.” Through play, contact improvisation, dance and physical theatre, we aim to create a safe and supportive foundation for exploration.

Week 2

An encounter with oneself and one’s body. Through duets and trios, we explore how to approach others, express emotion through movement, and recognize the possibilities and limitations that arise in these dance-conversations.

Week 3

Every “body” tells a story. Exploring and staging the body's own narratives, in a choreographic process, culminating in short pieces which we can share with the rest of the group.

Who can join: Open to dance practitioners, choreographers and educators. Exercises are adaptable for all levels. Participation in all three workshops is recommended, not obligatory.

Shereen began her career in musical theatre, training at The Arts Educational in London. In Norway, she worked across dance, theatre and human rights, choreographing, directing and performing in many productions. Over 35 years, Shereen has developed universal movement practices for professionals and amateurs alike.

PRAXIS workshop with Xindi Cao - Towards a Feminist Approach to Moving and Connecting: Thai Massage and Movement Research

About the workshop: Drawing from basic techniques of Thai massage and improvisational movement practices, we will experiment with ways of being present with ourselves, with others, and with the spaces we inhabit. Together, we will explore a feminist approach to movement and connection—one that values care, listening, and responsiveness over control, mastery, or dominance.

If the weather allows, we will also take a walk through the city and pay attention to how urban spaces encourage or limit different forms of movement and human connection. Throughout the workshop, we will ask: How can we develop bodily interactions based on care and respect? How can we be close to one another without being invasive? How can we support each other and cultivate practices of mutual care?

Who can join: This workshop is open to anyone interested in exploring movement, touch, and human connection through the body; no prior experience in dance or Thai massage is required. The workshop will be held in English, and mutual translation within the group is welcome.

Xindi Cao is a performance maker, massage practitioner, and dance researcher from Beijing, China. With backgrounds in Philosophy and the Anthropology of Dance, her work explores power relations as bodily experience, perception in social VR, and the gendered commodification of the body in service work. She currently continues her practice in Applied Theatre at Mozarteum University Salzburg.

PRAXIS classes with Rannei Grenne - Andrevalg

About the classes: What makes us make which choices, what influence do we have in making the choice, and what influence does the choice have? Over several years, I have developed a studio practice that I call Andrevalg. Andrevalg is a navigation system and a method for analyzing and challenging the choices I make while dancing / choreographing. Through the practice I work on training an awareness of how and why I do what I do, I notice habits, and when it is necessary to change something. My previous movements are always with me, but how do I relate to them and how do I move forward? The practice can potentially open up to a body beyond habits and predictability.

Who can join: In this workshop we will work with the method through dance / movement, but it is transferable to other artistic work as a method in itself. The workshop is open to anyone with an interest in movement, and we work from our own starting point.

Rannei Grenne has studied at Skolen for Samtidsdans in Oslo (2010) and the Univercity of Dance and Circus in Stockholm (2013). Grenne works as a choreographer and dancer. She has as a dancer worked with, among others Ingri Fiksdal, Bente Alice Westgård, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra/Heida Mobeck, Marie Nikazm Bakken/Fredrik Floen, and worked in collaboration with Solveig Styve Holte with the projects Flakkende røynd (2019) and Sixteen dances (2023). Her piece Forlengelser premiered in 2025, and is currently touring. She has been teaching at Høyskolen for Dansekunst, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, University of Stavanger, PRODA Oslo and PRODA Trondheim. Grenne received the work grant for younger / newly established artists for 3 years from the Norwegian Arts Council in 2019.
